Healthy Grub was created by Michelle Gonsalves in May 2016, with a goal and passion to help children create allergy friendly food and have fun doing so. We pride ourselves in trying to incorporate as much nutrition into each dish we create while still keeping it delicious and kid friendly.
Michelle has been, a chef for the past 20 years has traveled the world discovering new and exciting recipes and foods. After returning from Europe whilst working as a personal chef Michelle discovered her passion for specialty diets and her idea of food changed. It’s not about the fancy little dishes you make to taste good and look good, lots of people struggle everyday finding food they can eat without it hurting or upsetting their bodies.
Working in Day-care centres over the years as a chef and a child care worker, Michelle has discovered there is an opportunity in this sector to teach parents and children all about food and nutrition along with the benefits that helps them grow and develop. This passion for food has driven Michelle to study nutrition for years and with her own child being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease it has given her hands on experience when it comes to gluten free diets for kids.
The program she has developed is age appropriate and educational, incorporating fun activities that are hands on for children to discover and share with their parents. Michelle has extensive qualifications in the area of Food Nutrition and working with children its a true passion of hers to share her knowledge and Love of food with children.
Healthy Grub has variety of cooking classes to suit your child and now we even do Adult classes!
Healthy Grub can work with the educators at your School or Centre to bring the children the full learning experience. We can create recipes with the children around the topics and events they are learning about, like Easter, NAIDOC week, or other religious and cultural topics. The list is endless and there is so much fun to be had…
Healthy Grub loves making remakes of classic snacks and food for children that look on their face when you tell them it’s HEALTHY! priceless…. As a parent I understand it’s a great challenge to find healthy snacks for your children without reaching for the packet stuff. This is why I’ve complied a number of quick easy recipes to teach the children how to make their own food. I have found that a child will seek more pleasure in eating something they have made, that sense of accomplishment and that proud feeling they enjoy eating it. Healthy Grub loves learning different recipes and ideas about food, so if your children have a favorite meal, snack or dessert
that you know they will love. Bring it to us we’ll make it healthy and let’s see what we can create!
Our lessons work with and support the accredited LEAPS and Get Up & Grow programs put in place by Nutrition Australia QLD for the early childhood sector. These programs support the Early Years Learning Framework(EYLF) set by the Department of Education.
Healthy Grub can also provide nutritional menu planning for your kitchens, including a 6-week rotational menu with a variety of fun and nutritious recipes. We cater for all types of allergies, religious and dietary requirements for children.
